Why BoredGame?
It started with long car journeys
We have a caravan in Wales, and the journey there takes around five hours each way. What should be an exciting trip often felt stressful before we even arrived. The kids were bored, restless, and frustrated, and we found ourselves reaching for the iPads far earlier than we wanted to.
Like many parents, we felt torn. We wanted a calm drive, but we also felt the guilt that came with screens filling the entire journey. We tried all the usual car games. I Spy worked for a while, but it never lasted long enough to get us through the miles.
We realised we weren’t alone
This was not just our experience.
Through the Fun Dad Dean channel, where we connect with over 600,000 parents across platforms, we kept hearing the same thing again and again. Long journeys. Bored kids. Screen guilt. Parents feeling stuck between what works and what feels right.
It became clear this was a shared problem.
We wanted something better than the usual options
We did not want to create something complicated or over-structured. We wanted something simple enough to grab when boredom hits, flexible enough to suit different moods, and engaging enough to actually hold attention.
Something better than repeating the same car games. Something that could genuinely compete with screens.
That’s why BoredGame exists
BoredGame was designed to live in your car and be ready whenever you need it. There are no rules to learn, no setup, and no pieces to lose. Just pick a card and start.
Some games are silly, some are calm, some spark big conversations. Not every card will land every time, but across different journeys and moods, there is always something that works.
It’s not about banning screens
BoredGame is not about being anti-screen or pretending journeys will always be perfect. It is about having another option.
One that helps make long drives feel shorter, eases some of the stress and guilt, and creates moments of laughter, stories, and connection along the way.
Made for families like ours
BoredGame was made for families like ours, and for the many parents who told us they wanted something better for those long miles on the road.
